Fire

Reaction to fire

Perforated gypsum tiles naturally contain crystalline water which is released as steam when the tile is exposed to heat. Evaporation of the crystalline water requires large amounts of energy. Therefore, the materials do not contribute to fire propagation, and score among the best fire ratings.

The gypsum core itself is non-combustible. In fact the crystalline water in the gypsum plays an active role in subduing the heat development.

The reason for the development of small amount of flame spread lies in the fact that the gypsum core is covered with cardboard liner.

Also smoke development is highly limited thanks to gypsum’s water-containing capacity.

The gypsum tiles produce no burning droplets since they contain no components that are able to melt.
